Assistant Archivist University of California, San Francisco The UCSF Library and Center for Knowledge Management seeks applications from qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Archivist, classified as an Analyst I. Under the direction of the Manager of Archives and Special Collections, the Assistant Archivist will be responsible for assisting with Special Collections reference services, and processing archival collections; responsibilities include providing onsite research access to special collections materials, which involves retrieving boxes from storage and assisting researchers in the reading room; responding to email and telephone reference questions; filling requests for photocopies and digital images; maintaining reference statistics; accessioning incoming archival collections, both paper and digital; arranging archival collections and preparing guides for presentation on the Online Archive of California; preparing metadata for digital objects; other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in history or a related field; experience in reference work in an archives/special collections setting; experience in processing archival collections and knowledge of archival descriptive standards and practices, such as DACS; competency with EAD encoding; knowledge of standards and practices for creating metadata for digital objects; HTML skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; customer-service orientation; attention to detail; ability to work independently and collaboratively; Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds, and stand on ladders. Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in history, library science, or a related field; familiarity with reference sources in the history of health sciences; experience using online databases for research. Compensation Classified as an Analyst I, $3,350 - $5,525 per month, full time rate. Starting salary usually in the lower end of the range depending on experience and qualifications.
