History of the Neurosciences (ISHN)
Wednesday, 18 June - Sunday, 22 June 2008
The 13th annual meeting of the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences (ISHN) will be held Wednesday through Sunday, 18-22 June 2008 at the Harnack House, Berlin and nearby venues. The ISHN encourages contributions about all of the history of all of the neurosciences, including basic and clinical specialties, ancient and non-Western topics, technical advances, and broad social and cultural aspects.
A preliminary schedule of papers and events is available as a printable PDF file. The completed, final program and all abstracts will be available soon at: http://www.ishn.org/ishn2008.htm.
The structure of the ISHN meeting will be platform and poster papers
as well as thematic symposia, all to be refereed by the program committee.
Platform papers are normally about 15-20 minutes in duration
followed by 5-10 minutes for discussion. Thematic symposia consist
of 3 or 4 platform papers submitted together on a specific theme. Poster
papers will be displayed on a poster board whose size is yet to
be determined. The program will include several invited papers. The opening day of the program (June 18) includes a pre-conference workshop, led by Samuel Greenblatt on Teaching Neuroscience History. The opening day concludes with the Opening Reception (buffet dinner).
Some of the highlights will include: An inaugural Welcome Address by the meeting patron, Professor
Dr. Heinz Riesenhuber, former Minister of Science and
Technology of the Federal German Republic (1982 to 1992 in the Cabinet
of Chancellor Kohl). A special session in the Virchow Museum of the Charité,
Lecture by Bert Sakmann (Nobelist in Medicine or Physiology, 1991). The social program will include an Annual Banquet.
