Sunday, June 7 - Tuesday, June 9, 1998

The 3rd annual meeting of the International Society for the History of the Neurosciences (ISHN) will be held Sunday, June 7 to Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in the historic town of Annapolis, Maryland (USA), at the harbor.

The structure of the meeting will be platform and poster papers as well as thematic symposia, all to be refereed by the program committee. Platform papers are normally about 20 minutes in duration followed by 5-10 minutes for discussion. Poster papers normally fill an 8 x 4 foot poster board area. Proposals for papers and symposia may be submitted now to Harry Whitaker; ideas or suggestions may be submitted to any of the officers of the ISHN (listed below) for feedback/comments.

Please limit your abstract to one typed page of paper; please indicate your preference for a platform or poster session.

Abstracts/proposals may be submitted by mail, FAX, or e-mail.

Papers are expected to have at least one author who is a member of the society (for information on membership, please contact Duane Haines (below). ISHN encourages presenters to submit their papers to the society's official journal (for information on the Journal of the History of the Neurosciences, please contact either Peter Koehler or Stan Finger).

A block of rooms is reserved at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel at a favorable convention rate and there is an arrangement for students willing to room together. All attendees will be expected to make their own room reservations, no later than 45 days in advance of the meeting (i.e., by April 22, 1998), in order to obtain the convention rate. Please contact Harry Whitaker for further details about the meeting, hotel, city, and the Chesapeake Bay venue.

Given the proximity to Washington, D.C. and the various library collections there which are of historical research interest, plus the Annapolis venue itself with easy access to the scenic Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, the ISHN anticipates a great deal of interest in this meeting. We suggest that you consider contacting us soon if you are interested in presenting or organizing a symposium.
