i am working on a paper on the neuro-anatomical studies of the spinal cord>
from the dutch 19th century neuro-anatomist.
he formulated a 'law' in 1847, that seems to imply that he had some notion
of 'propriocepsis'. can anybody tell me who introduced this concept, or
approx when was it introduced?
schroeder also argued that in epileptic attacks, after firing, electrical
activity in cells in the medulla had to return to a base level, before they
could fire again. from the text it is not clear whether he assumed this was
the case or whether this principle (refractory period) was known to him.
when was the refractory period actually discovered?
