Arachnoid Mater

Dear all,

I have been able to trace the existence of two cerebral meninges, the
dura and pia, from classical Greece, through the dark ages, and up till
Vesalius. Sometime between then and now, these two have acquired a new
companion, the arachnoid mater. I suspect that this occurred after the
invention of the microscope, but I have no hard data. Does anyone know
when the arachnoid mater was discovered?

Thanks,

Christopher Robinson
