The Smithsonian Institution Libraries (SIL) is offering awards to do research in the Dibner Library of the History of Science & Technology forthe calendar year 2005. The program awards stipends of $2,500 per month forperiods from one month to six months in length. Scholars must be in residence at the Dibner Library during the period of their fellowship. The Dibner Library is one of the 20 Smithsonian Libraries and is located in the National Museum of American History, Behring Center, on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Dibner Library Resident Scholars conduct research in the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology. The Dibner Library specializes in early natural philosophy, the physical sciences, mathematics, and technology, and contains books and manuscripts from the 15th to the 20th centuries. Subject areas include mathematics, astronomy, classical to Early Modern natural philosophy, theoretical physics (up to the early 20thcentury), experimental physics (especially electricity and magnetism),engineering technology (from the Renaissance to the late 19th century), and scientific apparatus and instruments.
