Profiling the lives and achievements of more than three hundred women physicians, a new multimedia exhibition at the National Library of Medicine documents this history and explores the inequalities that still exist. Changing the Face of Medicine includes images and historical artifacts, a series of short films and interviews with physicians, interactive kiosks, and a searchable database of all of the women featured in the exhibition. The database is an especially rich resource for teaching and covers themes in the history of women and the professions, campaigns for women's rights, the women's health movement and healthcare activism, and issues of class, race, gender and sexuality in medical research and practice. The exhibition runs from October 2003 until March 2005. The library is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 AM to 5.00 and Saturdays 8.30 AM to 12.30 PM, and on Thursdays between Labor Day and Memorial Day 8.30 AM to 9.00 PM.
