Re: Skull landmark

Malcolm,

I believe the frontal ridge is the area on the left and right sides of the frontal bone, just above the
process that meets with the frontal process of the zygomatic bones(creating the lateral orbit of the
eye). The Temporal Fossa refers to the indented area behind these processes and a ridge follows
superior/anterior from the processes (parallel to the coronal suture), curving around to run toward to
anterior to meet with the Inferior Temporal Line (now running parallel to the sagittal suture). That ridge
I believe is the frontal ridge. In other words as you feel your frontal bone, starting just above your eyebrows,
working laterally, the moment your fingers want to shift to the side of your head (before moving into the
hollows of the temples), you are on the ridge.

Unfortunately Netters is no help, you can see the ridge but it is not named for some reason (plates
1 & 2). Check Osteopathic books, most likely William Sutherland's would have a reference as his
focus was cranial osteopathy.

The description couldn't be the frontal crest as they are describing external structures.

I hope that helps.
