Subject: SHOT Summer Writing and Publication Workshop

All participants must have completed a writing project of 25-40 double-spaced
pages: either a scholarly article or an essay intended for a general
audience. These manuscripts will be circulated prior to the workshop, and
participants will be required to read and prepare comments on some of the
other papers before the beginning of the workshop. During the workshop
fellows will have further opportunities to read and comment on each other's
writing as well as revise their own work.

Eligibility: The workshop is open to all SHOT members, though preference will
be given to recent Ph.D.s and advanced graduate students. Nonmembers may
apply, but must join SHOT as a condition of acceptance. Graduate students
must have completed at least two dissertation chapters. Participants are
welcome to bring companions at their own expense, subject to lodging
availability.

Applications should include:

* Your contact information, including telephone and email.
* A one-page curriculum vitae, including the name of the school from which
you received or will receive your Ph.D.
* A one-page description of your writing project. Specify whether it is
intended for an academic or popular audience.
* A one-page description of yourself and your research and writing interests
explaining why you want to participate in the workshop and what you expect
to learn from it.
* The name and email address of a reference who is familiar with your
written work.

Send application materials by 1 February 2004 to:
