History events at Society for Neuroscience 33rd annual meeting (New Orleans, Louisiana, 8-12 November 2003)
[Posted to HISTNEUR-L, The History of Neuroscience Internet Forum; and bcc:d to SfN poster presenters] Just a reminder to mark your programs/itineraries with the following events at the upcoming Society for Neuroscience meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, 8-12 November 2003: SAT 11/8 - TUE 11/11 History of Neuroscience poster session Teaching of Neuroscience poster session TUE 11/11 1:00-2:00pm History of Neuroscience Lecture "Mapping Memory in the Brain: Two Centuries of Exploration" James L. McGaugh (University of California, Irvine) This presentation will review historical developments creating current understanding of the involvement of brain circuits and systems in memory. Convention Center, La Nouvelle Orleans Ballroom To contact the authors of any of these presentations, you may find their addresses and other contact information in the SFN online membership directory. Go to: http://www.sfn.org , which has a Member Directory search box on the home page, and enter the name of the person whom you wish to locate. This year there is no scheduled History of Neuroscience Social. However, my colleague and friend Dan Barth is passing me the torch of hosting our annual Monday Night Football party. So, I'd like to invite all neurohistorians to join us at my place (SpringHill Suites, 301 St. Joseph, in the Warehouse District across from the Convention Center) on Monday at 8pm -- RSVP (off the list, of course--do NOT hit "reply" here; or at the meeting--I'll visit the history and teaching posters on Saturday) so I'll be able to lay in enough beer and soft drinks (or BYOB) and munchies. Like at my annual Rose Bowl open house party on January 1st, the football game itself quickly becomes video wallpaper instead of the centerpiece, so not to worry if you aren't an Eagles or Packers fan! If there isn't enthusiasm for this, then we may be able to arrange a neurohistory lunch during the meeting (this tends to be difficult, though, because of the huge crowds descending on all eateries within walkng distance of the Convention Center.) Cheers, Russell Johnson Secretary, International Society for the History of the Neurosciences (ISHN) Member (as of November), SfN Committee on the History of the Neurosciences ___________________________________ Russell A.
