Help requested
I am hoping that someone out there might be able to provide some help in getting reliable information about the following: In 1938, when the German army marched into Austria, the so-called Anschluss, Otto Loewi was put in jail along with an number of Jews in the city of Graz. At the time, the International Congress of Physiology was being held in Zurich. According to reports, I have read, when news of the arrest reached those attending the Congress, Henry Dale and Walter Cannon circulated a petition which threatened a boycott of German scientists if Loewi was not released. I would like to check the authenticity of this account and, if there is any record of it, I would like to see the actual wording of the petition. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Elliot S.
