Dear Russell,

Try http://galileo.imss.firenze.it/ you'll find the correct name (Italian 
and English) plus a very good description of a wonderful museum.  The site 
itself is pretty terrific -- have a look at the Galileo Room (No. IV?).  It 
beats the almost adjacent Uffuzi hands down  AND it contains Galileo's 
finger in a reliquary!

It also has a links to and/or lists of other museums in Italy (especially 
Tuscany).
