Bernard Lightman of York University has been appointed by the History
of Science Society to be the next Society Editor. The History of
Science Society is the world's largest society dedicated to
understanding science, technology, medicine, and their interactions
with society in historical context. The Society's flagship publication,
Isis, is the premier international journal dedicated to the history of
science. Isis is a quarterly journal featuring topical articles and
book reviews. Founded by George Sarton in 1912, Isis is currently
edited by Margaret Rossiter at Cornell University and published and
distributed by the University of Chicago Press. In conjunction with
two Associate Editors, The Society Editor also oversees another
journal, Osiris, which produces annual thematic volumes devoted to a
single topic of wide interest to the history of science community, and
the Isis Current Bibliography. Lightman’s five year term as Society
Editor begins on January 1st, 2004.
