This is an update regarding the Smithsonian Dibner Library of History
of Science & Technology Resident Scholar Grants for 2003. All
applications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2002 in order
to be eligible for consideration for the 2003 calendar year. It is
not too late to apply! However, due to the irradiation of US Postal
Service mail adressed to the Smithsonian zip code (20560), there may
be some delays in our receipt of applications. This will not
invalidate any since the postmark is the key, but it will delay the
review period as we will need to be sure that we have received all
applications before the review committee meets. If you have not sent
your application in yet, please send it via UPS or FedEx to our
address below. If you must send it via standard mail carriers, then
we suggest you send the application to our Post Office Box which is
not being irradiated (DO NOT send to this address via UPS or FedEx as
they do not deliver to P.O. boxes):

substantial use of collections in the Dibner Library. Historians,
librarians, doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars are welcome
to apply. Scholars must be in residence at the Dibner Library during
the award period. The Dibner Library Resident Scholar Program is
supported by The Dibner Fund for research in the Dibner Library of the
History of Science and Technology concentrating on the physical
sciences and technology from Classical Greece to the 19th century,
including mathematics, astronomy, classical natural philosophy,
theoretical physics (up to early 20th century), experimental physics
(especially electricity and magnetism), engineering technology, and
