This prize recognizes an original essay in the history of technology that explicitly examines in some detail a technology or technological device/process within the framework of social or intellectual history. Any single-authored, unpublished paper written by a graduate student is eligible. Manuscripts already published or accepted for publication will not be considered. Manuscripts should be in English and of a length suitable for publication as a journal article. Three copies should be sent to the Secretary, Stuart W. Leslie, Dept.of History of Science, 216B Ames Hall, Johns Hopkins U., 3400 North Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21218 USA. The judging will be blind, so authors should avoid self-identification, indicating their name on a cover sheet that will be detached before the manuscript is sent to the committee.
