brain shrinkage

A correspondent suggests that men in their 50s and 60s do well at high
altitude because their brains have shrunk a bit and they can therefore
tolerate a small amount of cerebral edema. Sounds unlikely. However can
someone point me to data on brain shrinkage in the 50s and 60s?
