Re: Brain banking
Forwarded for Anne Beaulieu. [Note of explanation: The software which operates our listserv, "ListProc", allows messages to be posted only from the e-mail address under which one subscribes. One benefit of this is it prevents many "Spam" messages from flooding the list. A disadvantage is that some members have more than one email address. Not to worry--I forward pertinent posts; and if several come from one person, I contact that person to see if he/she wants to change his/her subscription address. --RJ] --- Begin Forwarded Message --- Date: Tue, 22 Jan 2002 09:53:40 +0100 From: "Anne Beaulieu" <Anne.Beaulieu@niwi.knaw.nl> Subject: Re: Brain banking dear Cathy Gere, Besides the many helpful suggestions already made by colleagues, you might want to consult the phd dissertation of Ad Prins, University of Amsterdam, (_Aging and Expertise: Alzheimer's disease and the medical professions 1930-1990_), which contains a whole chapter on the brain collection practices in the Netherlands, for purposes of research on Alzheimer's disease. There are also intriguing critiques of the use of 'wet' brains from brain banks, arising from the brain imaging proponents. I can provide further information on this directly if you like, but it is probaly too recent history for me to bother this list with it. best regards, Anne Beaulieu Networked research and digital information NIWI-KNAW Joan Muyskenweg 25 Postbus 95110 1090 HC Amsterdam The Netherlands tel: (31)(20)462-8739 fax: (31(20)665-8013 http://www.niwi.knaw.nl/nerdi/ --- End Forwarded Message ---
