Dear Cathy: I'll add to the list of brain bankers. Professor Burt Green
Wilder was a legendary faculty member at Cornell University (founded 1865).
He was one of the first faculty to be hired (in 1867) and remained until
his death in 1925. Part of his legendary status derived from the very
existence of his large brain collecton, which was still intact (albeit
decrepit) when I was a student there (1957-1961). In recent years the
collection has been reviewed and much discarded, but some has been
preserved for historical interest. Wilder's successor was James Papez, of
limbic circuit fame. Sam Greenblatt, neurosurgery and neuroscience, Brown
University.
