I suppose that Julius Axelrod took us to a new level of understanding
with studies by him and his colleagues, showing how drug/poisons that
block the neuronal reuptake of transmitter by adrenergic neurons leads
to "supersensitivity." You know as well as anyone that the phenomenon of
supersensitivity has been known for about a century.
