Lecture: "Communicating Practice: Texts and Images in Medicine, 1500-1850" by Robert G. Frank, Jr. (UCLA Hammer Museum: Los Angeles, California, 10 January 2002)

The following information is a reminder (or new announcement for some)
about a lecture this evening by ISHN member Bob Frank. His talk is the
final one in a series of public programs associated with the exhibition
"The World From Here: Treasures of the Great Libraries of Los Angeles",
which runs through this coming Sunday. If you haven't seen the show,
this is your final chance! (The exhibition catalog has essays by Bob
Frank and others, and truly stunning photographs of numerous exhibit
items.)

The UCLA Hammer Museum

presents:

"Communicating Practice: Texts and Images in Medicine, 1500-1850"
Robert G. Frank, Jr.

"Medicine is based on facts and theories, but is ultimately justified
in application to heal the patient and to prevent disease-practice.
Frank will explore how Western medicine has attempted over its
formative centuries to communicate and preserve these personal and
dynamic skills through the objectified and static embodiments of text
and image. Robert Frank, Jr. is professor of Medical History and History
at UCLA. His research interests focus on the development of the
laboratory medical sciences and on historical concepts and effects of
disease."
