Re: Marie de Manaceine

Dear Stan,

Was searching 'WorldCat' when your sleep query came up. What I got for
both the English and French versions of the title are listed below and
because there are plenty of locations I made only a rough check of
them. Most of the English versions were in the US but there didn't seem to
be one at WU. I couldn't find any other publications under either version
of her name. Incidentally, she doesn't come up by name in the Library of
Congress catalogue even though WorldCat lists it as holding a copy,
probably because of the 'early' publication date. That and the accents
might give rise to problems in other catalogues.

First, with accents the spelling is Manac[e acute] [i umlaut]ne, without
it's Manaseina

Second, the titles:

Le sommeil, tiers de notre vie: pathologie, physiologie, hygiene,
psychologie / Author: Manaseina, Mar'ia Mikhailovna, d.1903. Publication:
Paris : Masson, 1896 Doc. Type: Book Libraries: 6 [Mainly French]

Sleep, its physiology, pathology, hygiene, and psychology, Author:
Manaseina, Mar'ia Mikhailovna, d. 1903. Publication: London, Scott, 1897
Doc.Type: Book Libraries: 65

Sleep :its physiology, pathology, hygiene, and psychology / Author:
Manacéïne, Marie de. . Publication: London : New York : W. Scott ;
Scribner's, 1897 Doc. Type: Book Libraries: 16

Sleep : its physiology, pathology, hygiene, and psychology / Author:
Manaseina, Mar'ia Mikhailovna, d.1903. Publication: London : New York : W.
Scott ; Scribner's, 1908 uuuu Doc. Type: Book Libraries: 7

Sleep, its physiology, pathology, hygiene, and psychology. Author:
Manaseina, Mar'ia Mikhailovna, d.1903. Publication: London, W. Scott, ltd.,
1914 Doc. Type: Book Libraries: 3

Sleep: its physiology, pathology, hygiene, and psychology. Author:
Manacéïne, Marie de. . Publication: London, New York, W. Scott; Scribner's,
1899 Doc. Type: Book Libraries: 10

I also had a look in Pavlov's chapters on sleep but he didn't mention her
work as a precursor to his.
