I think that the book is:

 MANACEINE, MARIE DE, Le sommeil, tiers de notre vie, Paris, 1896.  

Which translates something like, "Sleep, a third of our life" (help me out here).

I think that it was also published in English the following year as:

Sleep: Its Physiology, Pathology and Psychology, London, 1897.

I hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.
