Online Exhibit: Emotions and Disease (National Library of Medicine, US)
The U.S. National Library of Medicine has mounted an online version of an exhibition which the library's History of Medicine Division produced "live" from November 16, 1996 to May 1, 1997 in conjunction with the Third International Congress of the International Society for Neuroimmunomodulation, held at the National Institutes of Health. "Emotions and Disease" may be found at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/emotions/emotionshome.html Contents: - About the Exhibition - Historical Perspective - Balance of Passions - Psychosomatic Medicine: "The Puzzling Leap" - Self-Healing, Patents, and Placebos - Stress and Deptivation - Frontiers of the Mind - Notes - Checklist - Acknowledgments - Additional Readings I checked with Dr. Elizabeth Fee (Chief of NLM's History of Medicine Division) about how to purchase copies of the 92+ page printed catalog (which is a very attractive piece of work with many finely-reproduced illustrations that are not shown in the online exhibit). She replied that they do not have it for purchase but would be pleased to mail copies to those interested (as long as existing supplies last; I just requested one for the UCLA Neuroscience History Archives, so that's one down!).
