Largesse: National Union Catalog

HISTNEUR-Lers (especially in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut):

If your special collections library does not have the NUC, here is an
opportunity to get it for the cost of moving (which probably means
renting a truck and a couple of students and going to Brooklyn to
retrieve this HUGE reference work; shipping would cost several hundred
if not thousands of dollars). This is an invaluable, nearly
irreplacable resource, which won't be online soon (and the microfilm
edition is not an entirely usable alternative). Jump at this
opportunity--email John Martin and see if the set is still available
(you can use my name as a reference--tell him I, and archivist,
forwarded the message from the "ARCHIVES" list to the history of
neuroscience listserv).

Good luck,

Russell Johnson

Needing to expand shelf space in Periodicals, our Library has decided to
offer volumes 1-424 of the National Union Catalog, pre-1956 imprints
(London: Mansell, 1968-1974). The recipient must arrange for shipping
and handling.

John
