MEETING INFORMATION
VENUE: To ensure the success of our meeting we have chosen one of the
best business hotels in town. The Queens Hotel Köln is beautifully
situated at the edge of the Cologne woods--the city's "green
lungs"--near one of several lakes. Featuring both concierge and
executive floors for the ultimate in service, the Queens Hotel also
is home to the Im Stadtwald restaurant, the Lindenthal bar, and an
outstanding Biergarten with a view over the lake.
ACCESSIBILITY: The hotel is located about 25 minutes from the
Cologne/Bonn Konrad-Adenauer Airport (Flughafen Köln/Bonn) by taxi. The
main railway station (Köln Hauptbahnhof or "Koeln Hbf") and downtown
area can be reached just as quickly. Travelers might also consider
flying directly to Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport) and taking the
train--approximately 3 hours--to Cologne. Directions for arrival by
automobile: motorway junction (Kreuz), direction Euskirchen; exit
Frechen, direction Köln-Zentrum; drive 3 miles (4.5 km); the Queens
Hotel is on the left at Dürener Strasse 287.

Köln at DM (Deutsche Mark) 198,00 per night (single, standard

Dormitories at Cologne University are not available.
Financial Assistance: The ISHN has allocated some limited funds to
assist with travel expenses for students (pursuing any degree,
undergraduate or graduate) whose abstracts have been accepted and who
must travel expensive distances. The Program Committee will determine
the distribution of these funds based on (1) the quality of abstracts
and (2) applicants' projected travel expenses, recognizing that
sometimes it costs more to travel modest distances than long ones. If
you wish to apply for this assistance, please include with your
abstract a short paragraph of request and explanation (with your
projected expenses) on a separate sheet.
GENERAL INFORMATION: Cologne used to be called the "holy city", a name
to which its many medieval churches and Cathedral (Kölner Dom) bear
testimony. With more than one million inhabitants, Cologne is not only
one of the largest cities in Germany, but also the most important trade
and transport center in the west of the country. The city offers an
impressive array of modern museums--with remarkable exhibitions--as
well as theaters and award-winning restaurants. Cologne has become a
popular center for trade fairs, which attracted 1.4 million visitors in
1999 alone. It is very much an international city. For more information
about things to do, contact the City of Cologne Tourist Office at: ++49
221 221 333 45.
SOCIAL PROGRAM: Most likely, the social program will include a guided
tour of the Cathedral and/or Art Museum followed by a boat trip on the
River Rhine. We will also visit Augustusburg (Schloss Augustusburg),
a baroque castle in Brühl near Bonn, and celebrate a banquet at the
castle's restaurant "Orangerie".
For more information about the area, and for assistance with any other
arrangements, please contact Dr. Karenberg.

help you plan your budget. Complete information about when and how to
pay registration fees will be announced in March 2001.
