Vogli 1720
I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Joanne-Hyacintho Vogli, who published a book in Latin called FLUIDI NERVEI HISTORIA (Bononiae Studiorum, 1720). It's just over 90 pages long, and summarises early 18th-century neurophysiological theories on nerves, brain, and aether, going on to look at Descartes' beast-machine doctrine, the nature of imagination and memory, the source of dreams and the cause of the poverty of dream recall, and the differences in brain size across species. I'm wondering who Vogli was, who he was connected to, and what influence if any this book had: it's not referred to, as far as I can see, in the recent literature on early modern theories of animal spirits and nervous fluids. I haven't used my terrible Latin to plough through it in detail yet and would be very grateful for any information.
