post-doc available

Northern Michigan University in Marquette, located on Lake Superior in the
heart of Michigan's scenic Upper Peninsula, is pleased to announce once
again the availability of one, possibly two, innovative post-doctoral
teaching fellowships in the Department of Psychology. Our department is
widely recognized for the quality of its undergraduate teaching, which
includes the active participation of students in faculty-directed research
projects. A Master's degree program in experimental psychology was added in
1999. This is the third year of these fellowships, which offer training in
teaching a variety of courses in psychology; formal mentoring in all
aspects of university teaching is a key element of this program. Research
activity involving students is expected and supported. Previous fellows
have found this experience helpful in pursuing academic careers. The Ph.D.
is required; we seek candidates who have recently received their doctoral
degree or who will have it in hand prior to the start of the fellowship.
The salary is $30,000 for the academic year plus health benefits, starting
Aug 23, 2000 and ending May 1, 2001. The fellowship is for one year,
renewable for a second year. Candidates in any area of psychology are
invited to apply; current faculty interests include: abnormal, personality,
cognitive, learning, physiological, neuropsychology, social, developmental,
early child, behavior analysis and history. To apply, send a letter of
interest, curriculum vitae, transcripts, at least three letters of
reference, and statements of teaching and research interests to Prof. Harry
A. Whitaker, Head, Department of Psychology, Northern Michigan University,
Marquette, Michigan 49855. E-mail inquiries are of course welcomed; send
to: hwhitake@nmu.edu. For more information about our department. visit our
Web site http://www.nmu.edu/psychology/psychhm.htm. The position will
remain open until filled. Northern Michigan University is an AA/EOE and is
strongly committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty.
