We have a rich and varied program to offer: the 29 scholarly sessions include the Presidential Address and a special plenary, "Millennial Perspectives," on Sunday. In addition, there are 7 engaging luncheon topics, a program of medical history cartoons, some political satire (The Capitol Steps will entertain us at the Banquet), the annual Garrison Lecture and a medieval reception afterwards at the National Library of Medicine. The program book includes the programs of the associated societies and various additional breakfasts and business meetings, tours and receptions, and of course the book exhibit of rare books and the latest publications. The conference hotel, the Bethesda Hyatt, is located right over a Metro stop, making it easy to explore Washington's many museums and monuments. Within a few blocks of the hotel, you can find about 150 restaurants, offering something for virtually every taste. Washington should be beautiful in May: we will send a program of tours with the pre-registration package. We will post additional materials about places of historical and medical interest on our website at www.nlm.nih.gov/hmd/aahm/2000.html as these become available.
