The Centre will incorporate the activities and personnel of the present Wellcome Trust Unit for the History of Medicine. A historian of the biomedical sciences is required for the academic year September 2000 -2001 to cover for a secondment. You will teach an undergraduate course on the history of the life sciences with special reference to evolutionary theory and the social history of genetics, as well as contributing to the MSc in History of Science Technology and Medicine, run jointly with Imperial College and UCL. You will also tutor and supervise dissertations as appropriate and participate in all unit activities. The Centre is located close to the Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine and the British Library and there are ample opportunities for research. You should have a PhD in the history of science, including biological sciences, and ideally some teaching experience. Excellent communication skills are vital for this post, as is the ability to convey information in a creative and innovative way. This one year post will be funded via the Wellcome Trust Centre grant to UCL. Salary will be on a scale from 20,319 to 26,613 pa (inc LW).
