Website: International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM)

The following message is posted at the request of Professor Ynez V.
O'Neill, president of the ISHM:

The International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM) is pleased
to announce the creation of a bilingual website/homepage:

<http://www.neurobio.ucla.edu/ishm/ishmhome-eng.htm>
or
<http://www.neurobio.ucla.edu/ishm/ishmhome-fr.htm>

The ISHM was founded at Paris in 1921. Its purpose is to assist and
support the historical study of all matters relating to the medical and
biological sciences. The ISHM welcomes all persons world wide who are
interested in the history of the healing arts.

This website will assist ISHM in its goal of improving communication
between individuals and progressional groups throughout the world and
in promoting the teaching and distribution of knowledge on these
topics. As French and English are ISHM's official languages, it is
appropriate that the new webpage is mounted in both those languages.

ISHM sponsors and oversees the organization of biannual international
congresses on the history of medicine (the 37th International Congress
on the History of Medicine will be held in Galveston, Texas, 10-15
September 2000; see <http://library.utmb.edu/ishm/main-frame.htm> for
details), and hence its website will contain information concerning
those congresses as well as on other ISHM activities. Persons seeking
to apply for membership can consult the webpage for application forms
and information about ISHM's journal, _Vesalius_.
