Re: returning messages

HISTNEUR-Lers:

About that mysterious message you just received:

Laura Campbell works in our Library Information Systems department and
administers part of computer network operations, including listservs.

When she says our list is "well protected", she is talking about the
fact (among other things) that messages cannot be posted to HISTNEUR-L
except by people who are subscribed to the list. This requirement
causes inconveniences when you try to post from an account from which
you are not subscribed or when your email address suddenly changes (in
each case, I get a copy of the error message and try to resolve the
problem with the individual). I can assure you that this inconvenience
is more than offset by the protection you receive from "Spam"--junk
e-mail sent automatically to millions of email accounts--that our
network server intercepts.

Cheers,

Russell Johnson
