Book announcement: _Minds behind the brain: a history of the pioneers and their discoveries_ by Stanley Finger (Oxford University Press, Feb. 2000)
Stan Finger's new book, _Minds behind the brain: a history of the pioneers and their discoveries_, is now listed as "in stock" at the Oxford University Press website; see <http://www.oup-usa.org/isbn/019508571X.html> for a description and ordering information. I saw the galleys at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in Miami Beach last fall and have been looking forward to the final product (especially to see how the drawings and illustrations came out). A review by William Beatty in the American Library Association's 2/1/2000 _Booklist_ notes: "Unusually, title and subtitle actually state what this book is about. Finger ... brings to life representative major figures in the history of brain research, showing how each grew up, thought, worked, and fit into the context of his or her time. ... He portrays each discoverer not only as a person but also as a vital participant in group relationships; indeed, some of his accounts of pivotal scientific meetings prove dramatic."
