Summer Seminars and Institutes for College and University Teachers, 2000: "Descartes and His Contemporaries: Scholastics and Novatores", "Thomas Reid on Perception, Knowledge, and Action", etc.(NEH Outlook, January 2000)

Forwarded to HISTNEUR-L from NEH OUTLOOK newsletter.

I previously posted the announcement of one of these seminars
<http://www.medsch.ucla.edu/som/bri/archives/hnl/msg99287.htm>, but now
am forwarding information about the entire series of this
year's travel-funded summer seminars. Look at the website and follow
its links, too, and perhaps consider developing an NEH summer seminar
or institute in 2001 or 2002 on neuroscience history ...

APPLICATIONS WELCOME FOR SUMMER 2000 NEH SEMINARS AND INSTITUTES
The novels of Virginia Woolf, world religions in America, and a comparative
cultural study of Mexico and the U.S. are among the topics of this year's
NEH summer seminars and institutes for middle and high school teachers. The
founding of Jamestown; law in ancient Greece, Rome, and China; and bioethics
are among the topics for college and university professors. March 1, 2000
is the application deadline for teachers and professors who would like to
attend one of these professional development opportunities, offered annually
by NEH. Each seminar and institute immerses participants in the latest
scholarship on a particular humanities topic and fosters collegial
reflection and individual inspiration. The seminars and institutes, which
begin in June on university campuses throughout the nation, are posted on
NEH's website at http://www.neh.gov/teaching/seminars1.html (for school
teachers) and http://www.neh.gov/teaching/seminars2.html (for professors).
There are 27 offerings for school teachers, and 22 for professors. To apply
or to inquire about individual seminars or institutes, contact the director
listed with each project at the web links.
