Re: Grand rounds tapes

Barbara,

We recently made the decision to discard the medical and surgical grand
rounds tapes we had from the 1970s and 1980s, which were all in the old
format. We first checked with the surgery and internal medicine
departments to see if (a) there was any reason for us to keep these in the
library or (b) to see if they wished to keep them in the departments. The
answers were no on both counts. Grand rounds are no longer being taped, so
we didn't feel too badly about discarding the older ones as they were not
part of an ongoing series.

We decided to retain, however, the tapes of Medical Center Hours and the
annual fourth-year class plays, even if they were in the older format. We
may decide to reformat these, depending on interest and expense. Medical
Center Hour topics are of much more general interest to the Health Sciences
Center and the University community than are grand rounds and the
fourth-year class plays are of sentimental as well as historical import.
Additionally, the Medical Center Hours and the class plays continue to be
taped.

Hope this information helps!
