The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN),
a part of the Columbia Earth Institute of Columbia University and located
at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, has several job openings for
information professionals in the areas of information services, metadata,
and archiving of electronic information. We are seeking people with
expertise in records and information management.

CIESIN is a data center located within Columbia University. CIESIN
maintains two major programs, the Global Change Research Information
Office (GCRIO) and the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center
(SEDAC). GCRIO provides access to data and information on global change
research on behalf of the US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and
its participating Federal Agencies and Organizations.

Observing Data and Information System (EOSDIS), develops and delivers
information products and services that integrate social and natural
science data useful for decision making.

(This position is for a Senior Archivist.)

Description: The incumbent manages and directs the acquisitions and
archival processes, as well as other activities handled by archives and
staff for the Center data archive, including data systems development and
implementations of standards, procedures, and policies relevant to
program requirements; performs all tasks associated with data archiving;
manages and coordinates the daily operations of the archives and
acquisitions staff and integration of data and information products into
the archive, including the dissemination of data products via the order
the system; develops guidelines and policies for data management and
quality control to ensure integrity and quality of data products and
information resources and compliance with program requirements;
liaison/coordinates between programs and across departments; supervises
and trains archive staff; minimal supervision by respective program
managers; significant independent judgement and initiative required;
supervises junior archiving staff; budget authority up to 200K, Equipment
and supplies to 50K.

Qualifications: MS in Computer Science, Information Science, CIM or CIS;
or MS degree in physical or social science with extensive database,
programming and resource management experience; or a equivalent
combination of education and experience required. Five years' related
work experience required.

guidance from various projects leaders; performs other related duties as
assigned.

or equivalent combination of education and experience and two years' or
more of related experience required.
