Jim:
(1) For mechanics/preservation issues/etc. of time capsules:
The ARCHIVES listserv returns to this subject every 6 months or so,
like clockwork. I don't think ARCHIVES has an FAQ for that topic, but
the web-based message archives for that list can be searched at:
<http://listserv.muohio.edu/archives/archives.html>
Select "search the archives", which takes you to a search form. I just
did a search with the following in the "Search for" box:
time AND capsule
and I checked the "Substring search" box to allow truncation, search
within words, etc. I also entered "June 1998" in the "Since" box; I
wanted only fresh/rehashed messages, not those from 1996. That
retrieved 75 messages.
Conservation DistList is also searchable on this topic, via
<http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/Architext/AT-cool_hypermailquery.html> .
(2) Now, as for comments on sci/tech/med contents and all that--I'd be
curious to hear opinions and experiences, too (UCLA will break ground
for a new, half-billion dollar hospital once it tears down a couple of
buildings and a parking structure to make room, and I expect we'll be
hearing queries about making a time capsule).
Cheers,
Russell
