Brief Description of Job Duties
One-year grant funded position to substitute for regular staff member.
Responsible for maintenance and care of the Library's archival holdings,
including accessioning, inventorying, arranging, describing,
cataloging, and providing reference services. May participate in
SGML-EAD work depending on qualifications. Assists with providing
general reference service to library's users.
Essential Functions
Assists in maintaining archives by accessioning and inventorying
new collections. Develops plans for processing collections;
processes collections and performs other collection maintenance tasks.
Prepares MARC-AMC catalog records, including subject analysis and
indexing using AACR2, APPM and other standard descriptive conventions.
May assist with application of SGML-EAD.
Serves at reference desk as needed; assists researchers in use
of manuscript materials and all other resources of the library.
Performs a variety of other
tasks.
Qualifications
Requirements: ALA-accredited M.L.S. with archival training or M.A.
in history with specialization in archives; plus one year of
professional archival experience. Experience with standard archival
computer applications preferred. Knowledge of SGML-EAD a plus. Must
be able to lift 40 pound boxes of library materials. Individual must
be comfortable in a small, flexible work environment that puts a
premium on team interaction and personal motivation. Background in
science or experience with scientific records is NOT required.
