The National Anthropological Archives, National Museum of Natural History,
Smithsonian Institution announces a position opening for an archivist
(GS-1420-11).

ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER:  99YH-2095

Opening date: 5/11/1999
Closing date: 6/09/1999
SALARY: $ 40,714 per annum
Promotion potential to GS-13

Duties: Serves as the primary processing archivist for the National
Anthropological Archives (NAA) and arranges and describes collections
according to standard archival procedures.  Plans and implements a
long-range maintenance and preservation program for manuscript,
cartographic, artwork, and photographic materials.  Develops written
proposals to obtain support for preservation projects and exhibits.
Provides basic reference services to assist scholars, curators and other NAA
visitors with research.  Serves as general editor for the NAA collections
registers and finding aids; NAA representative to the SIRIS (Smithsonian
Institution Research Information System) Users Group and creates and updates
records on SIRIS, the Archives' online electronic catalogue.  Coordinates
the NAA intern and volunteer program.  Supports the NAA acquisitions
program, including writing and  communicating with potential donors.
