The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, the Museum of Mental Health
Services (Toronto) Inc. and the Rehabilitation Institute invite you to
participate in the 8th Annual History of Psychiatry Research in Progress
Seminar.  This will be held on Friday, May 21, 1999 at the above address.

The RIP Seminar provides a day-long forum for historians and other
academics including health professionals, archivists and independent
scholars.  This year's theme is "The Role of Artifacts in the History of
Psychiatry."  The session will open with a public lecture by Patricia
Allderidge, Archivist and Curator at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, U.K.

Following the public lecture, registrants will make brief presentations to
be followed by questions and discussion.  Proposals for fifteen-minute
presentations based on work in progress or recently completed research, on
any aspect of the history of addictions, psychiatry and mental illenss and
its treatment are welcome.

The keynote address is open to all without cost.  But Research in Progress
participants will be required to pay a fee of $50.00.  This includes lunch
and refreshments.  The fee for full-time students is $20.00, and for the
unwaged, $5.00.
