I have no idea how to dispose of slides, though you might contact Terri Somrak at the
ASCP. I called someone at a cytopathology outfit one time on the issue of preserving slides
and they referred me back to her, much to her amusement.
I have a similar problem there since one of our members gave us some jars and bottles
that previously contained old biologicals and chemicals used in laboratory medicine. He
originally wanted to give us the chemicals as well, but Dr. Rock pointed out that the
chemicals deteriorated with age and became highly explosive. With visions of exploding
airplanes and trucks, we asked our generous member to consult a hazardous waste disposal
outfit in his area. Instead, he emptied and cleaned the jars himself and sent them to
us. Since there is still a residue, we are trying to figure out who can clean them
safely. Such is life for an archivist for a pathology society.
Sorry, I can't help further.
