I read, with interest, of the Millenium Grants in the posting of NCC Wash
Update Vol.5, Jan 13. With matching grants of from $50,000-$3,000,000, is
any institution interested in acquiring the complete, original archives of
The Wright Company, with all documents, letters, ledger, board meetings, etc
of the Wright Brothers; the various early Glenn Curtiss Companies; and the
Glenn Martin Co. (1912-1917) etc?

With the Centennial of Powered Flight Celebrations being planned for 2003,
the publishing of all the letters, licensing of all the thousands of photos,
and TV and movie documentary rights make the acquisition of this national
treasure more feasible than ever. The asking price ($900,000) is approx.
one-third of what experts feel the archives are capable of bringing, if
broken up into 30-40 lots at a major auction house. Respected institutions
may negotiate a partial tax write-off and multi-year payment plans or other
options. The publicitiy such a saving effort would bring to any institution
that acquires them would be world-wide in every form of media. The good will
and potential future support by other donors and benefactors could be
extensive and long lasting.
Cheers, Joe Gertler
