               ISI/MLA DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP

PURPOSE:  to foster and encourage superior students to conduct doctoral
work in health sciences librarianship or information science.

ESTABLISHED:  by the Institute for Scientific Information.  

Administered: by the Medical Library Association.

ELIGIBILITY:  ALA-accredited library school graduate;  candidacy in 
in a Ph.D. program with an emphasis on biomedical and health-related 
information science.  Preference for applicants who have at least 80% 
of their course work completed and an approved dissertation prospectus; 
citizenship or permanent residence in the U.S. or Canada.

AWARD:  $2,000 cash and a hand lettered certificate, presented at the 
1999 MLA annual meeting.

APPLICATION:  - Completed application form
         - Two letters of reference
         - Transcripts of grad work completed, or proof of
           enrollment and a list of courses completed
         - Summary of project and detailed budget
         - Signed statement of terms and conditions 

DEADLINE:  December 1, 1998

CONDITIONS:  Award may not be used for tuition, equipment or related
costs, or living expenses.

NOTIFICATION:  April 1999.  Recipient assumes all costs of attending the
meeting and ceremony.
