     It is my understanding that NIH does not save grant records.  Their 
     retention is three years past grant renewal or oriject end.  I too 
     would be interested to know what historians think about the level of 
     documentation in medical research.  I read an article somewhere about 
     2-3 years ago that medical history is on of the most underdocumented 
     areas in all of the history disciplines.
