[Previous Posting] [Next Posting] Greetings after Chicago
Greetings to STHC Members: We're all just back from the Chicago SAA meeting, and wanted to post you up on news there, and events to transpire now. First of all, a full account of the STHC meeting will appear on the website in the next few days, so watch for that. Next, Janice Goldblum moved to "co-chair emerita," and Tim Pennycuff, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, was elected to a two-year term as c0-chair of the STHC Roundtable. Third, thanks to John Zwicky for organizing our excellent Roundtable program, on artifacts in archives. Next, congratulations to Joe Anderson of the Center for the History of Physics, on his election as an SAA Fellow; and to Christie Moffatt and Marie Gallagher of the National Library of Medicine, for winning SAA's Hamer Kegan Award for "Profiles in Science." Finally, two items of business: 1. There are two vacancies in the Roundtable's steering committee. If you are interested, please contact either me or Tim in the near future. The co-chairs will be filling those vacancies by the end of September. It's a lot of fun, most of which is helping to shape the program, which brings me to . . . 2. The SAA 2008 Program submission. The 2008 meeting is in San Francisco, and the Roundtable gets to endorse two proposals. The deadline for SAA submission is October 12. If you have program submission that you would like to have considered for STHC Roundtable endorsement, please submit your proposal to me or to Tim by September 28, so we can circulate it to the steering committee for review. Information on submission is found at http://www.archivists.org/conference/sanfrancisco2008/program-call.asp. We have a good tradition of securing excellent sessions at SAA--the most recent of which was on patent records, organized by Alison Oswald of the Lemelson Center. Let's keep up that tradition! Thanks to all who attended, and special thanks to our departing co-chair, Janice Goldblum, for her excellent service!
