[Previous Posting] [Next Posting] SAA's Great Ideas! InfoExpo
Dear STHCers, Janice Goldblum and I, STHC Co-Chairs, received the following communication from SAA about a new initiative, Great Ideas! InfoExpo, which will be inaugurated at the upcoming SAA meeting in DC. If anyone has any ideas about a display that is representative of your community and/or STHC, we encourage you to submit a proposal. Please note that the deadline for display proposals is June 16 to bdoyle@archivists.org. Please feel free to use this listserv to brainstorm display ideas. Please share with the list any proposals that are submitted, so we will know what to look for at the meeting. Joan We need your help! SAA, NAGARA, and CoSA are staging the first-ever Great Ideas! InfoExpo at the upcoming Joint Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. This event—arising in part from recommendations and efforts made by members of SAA’s Diversity Committee— will take place from 8 am to 5 pm, Thur., Aug. 3 through Sat., Aug. 5, and will provide a great opportunity for peer-to-peer information sharing about programs of interest to the archival community nationwide. Diversity will be one of three featured themes. Eight to ten exhibits* will be set up on two six-foot tables in the hallway between the main exhibition area and the education session rooms. This will maximize visibility and encourage viewing by a large number of conference attendees. Your group has been selected to receive this special invitation. In order to promote diversity within the archival community, we encourage you to participate in one of the following ways: 1) Identify 1-2 members of your group who you know to be involved with important projects and/or initiatives and invite them to submit a proposal and represent your community; 2) Submit a proposal yourself for a display to represent your section or roundtable; 3) Combined proposals (representing both projects and your group) are also very welcome. Types of materials appropriate for display include: Binders or scrapbooks containing print materials (brochures, leaflets, etc.); Multiple copies of pamphlets, brochures and/or flyers that visitors can take; Posters or small free-standing table-top displays (no more than 12” wide); Photograph albums or scrapbooks of your organization’s events. The Great Ideas! InfoExpo provides the most visible venue to highlight efforts promoting diversity in SAA and in the broader archival profession. Space is limited, so we are asking prospective exhibitors to submit a proposal and reserve their space as soon as possible. Please submit your proposals no later than June 16 to bdoyle@archivists.org: We will notify selected groups by July 1, 2006, and provide instructions on how to deliver items for the exhibit. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Brian Doyle SAA Director of Member & Technical Services * Displays will be limited to materials that can be placed on table tops as multiple groups will share the space. In addition, materials must be clearly labeled and be largely self-explanatory because space constraints will not allow presenters to sit at or easily stand near the tables.
