Please excuse cross-posting ----- Columbia University Processing Archivist (full-time, temporary 18 month position) Office of Education and Scholarly Resources Description: Working under the supervision of the Head, Archives and Special Collections, Health Sciences Library, the Processing Archivist will be responsible for organizing, arranging, rehousing, and describing the records of the Maternity Center Association according to accepted archival practices; determine larger preservation needs; write a finding aid; and create a MARC collection-level record for inclusion into OCLC, RLIN and the Columbia University library’s OPAC. This is a full-time temporary position for a period of 18 months. Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS with an emphasis on archival management, or an MA in archival management; at least one year of experience in processing large, complex, modern archival collections; competence in archival processing techniques; knowledge of PC-based word processing programs; knowledge of DACS, MARC and related descriptive standards for archives; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work efficiently and to meet project goals and deadlines; and ability to lift 40 lb. boxes required. The salary for this PC-I position is commensurate with experience.
