Director: Historical Research Library 

Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) invites applications and nominations for 
the position of Director of the Othmer Library. This new position will spearhead 
major initiatives emerging from CHF's recent comprehensive strategic planning process.

The Chemical Heritage Foundation is the leading global institution dedicated 
to the history and heritage of the chemical and molecular sciences. CHF 
develops and maintains world class collections of materials that document 
chemical achievement; carries out programs of outreach and interpretation; 
advances public understanding of the role of the chemical and molecular sciences, 
technologies, and industries in shaping society; and strengthens the ability 
of the chemical community to make continued contributions. CHF is located in the 
heart of Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia.

The Othmer Library offers one of the most complete collections of books and 
journals relating to the chemical and molecular sciences in the world. For

Reporting to the President, the Director will:
Oversee CHF's published collections: maintaining the Collections Plan, 
	establishing collection goals, and gaining funding for significant new 
	additions to the collection
Keep abreast of technological changes and implement new technologies that 
	support innovative research libraries 
Enhance and promote the prestige of the collections internationally, making 
	CHF known as the "repository of choice" for the chemical and molecular sciences 
Supervise and develop the library staff, through subordinate managers
Expand the usage and impact of the collections in research, education and outreach 
Serve as a member of CHF's leadership team which, working as a group, 
	manages the daily operations of the organization 

Qualifications include: Advanced degree in history of science, technology, 
or medicine, in bibliographical studies or in related field; in-depth 
knowledge of bibliography, library development and historical collections; 
experience in managing professional staff. Additionally, knowledge of current 
issues and trends in scholarly communication, experience in building a major 
collection, and experience in interpretation and public exhibitions are desirable.
