Surgical History

During WWI, many of our pictures do not show people wearing masks nor necessarily 
gloves. You can see a selection of these pictures on our website - click on exhibits and 
then pick Battlefield Surgery 101. I would doubt that the picture is posed, because by the 
1920s fast film existed, and there was plenty of light in an operating room. It probably would 
have been easier to film a real operation than pose one. Looking at your picture, I do believe 
that everyone was asked to pause and look at the camera before going ahead with the operation.
