This unique and exciting institution is home to the largest collection of computer related collections in the world. The Museum's vision is to explore the computing revolution and its impact on human experience. Backed by leaders and innovators of the computer industry, CHM is actively working on exhibits, collections, public programs, and special events to be housed at its new permanent museum building in Mountain View CA. Position Summary: The Assistant Archivist has primary responsibility for scanning images and documents, performing quality control of both the digital images and metadata, and assisting in providing online access to materials gathered for a grant funded Information Technology Corporate Histories Project. Project objectives are to use the Internet to both collect primary source materials and provide access to these historical materials. The Assistant Archivist reports to the Archivist. The position is a one year temporary hire not to exceed 20 hours per week. The part time rate is $20.00 per hour without benefits. We hope to expand the position responsibilities and hours to full time after the initial 4 to 6 months. The expanded position duties will also include reference services and manuscript processing. Required Qualifications, Attributes and Skills • Masters in Library Science, Public History, or Museum Studies, with archival emphasis or a graduate student working towards one of these degrees. • Experience working in an archive, library, historical society, or museum. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Proficiency in performing preservation quality image scanning. • Expertise with computer hardware and software to maintain and make accessible integrated collection databases. • Experience performing quality control functions in digital projects. • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. • Detail-oriented and ability to be flexible. • Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft office software. • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. • Sense of humor. Preferred Qualifications, Attributes and Skills • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in manuscript processing. • Knowledge of digital scanning standards and preservation. • Knowledge of archival principles and practices. • Knowledge and experience in archival and museum metadata creation. • Experience providing reference services and managing research request workflow. Availability • Not to exceed 20 hours a week for a one year temporary position with potential for renewal.
