I regretfully have found that the public is by and large ignorant of any type of medical history.
There is a lot of presumption that med history is not connected to history in general. Part of the
problem is that the medical field has tried to keep itself secret and guarded itself. There is a
considerable amount of alchemy involved too. We tend to overdo the big names and events and ignore
the smaller secondary events like W. W. Ely, MD and the mapping of the Adirondacks, or the life and
death of Louis Weigel, MD one of the first Martyrs to the X-ray. Medical history needs to be written
from the "man on the street" point of view not the loftiness of academia
